The Dallas Cowboys have announced that they have released defensive end, Michael Sam, from their practice squad.

Sam, who is the first openly-gay player in the NFL, was drafted and signed by the St. Louis Rams, but was cut before the season started. He joined the Dallas Cowboys' practice squad in September where he spent the first 7 games of the season. But, he was never activated to the 53-man roster.

The Cowboys waived him to make a roster spot for Troy Davis, a second-year pro from Central Florida.
