UPDATE: ‘The Sports Hangover’ with Gus Kattengell on New Orleans’ 106.1 ‘The Ticket’ posted the audio from the skit earlier today. Sadly, it’s even worse when you hear it (so there is your fair warning).

UPDATE: After initially being suspended, an update on 790 AM’s website announced that the trio of hosts of ‘Mayhem in the AM’ (Nick Cellini, Steak Shapiro, and Chris Dimino) and everyone involved have been fired. 790 the Zone, A sports radio station in Atlanta aired a three minute segment this morning, pretending to talk to former New Orleans Saints safety Steve Gleason. Gleason suffers from ALS, and communicates by using a computer. The morning show recorded a segment speaking to a computer, claiming it was Gleason. Allegedly, one line used in the disgraceful bit was of “Gleason” saying, “I might be dead by Thursday.” This is disgusting, even coming from an Atlanta Falcon centered radio station. Making fun of anyone with ALS is despicable. Word of the distasteful segment began on tigerdroppings.com, then spread to twitter, where Scott Fujita, former Saints linebacker and close friend of Gleason, responded.       Nick Cellini, one of the morning hosts on 790 the Zone who thought it would be a good idea to make fun of a man suffering from ALS, responded to the criticism. Emphasis on stupid, disrespectful, disgraceful, embarrassing, repulsive, gross, and deplorable. As a result, Cellini has been suspended indefinitely. Here is the response from Rick Mack, General Manager of 790 the Zone.

“We deeply regret the comments made by Mayhem In The AM this morning on 790 The Zone regarding former New Orleans Saints player Steve Gleason. 790 The Zone, Lincoln Financial Media, our sponsors and partners in no way endorse or support the unfortunate and offensive commentary concerning Mr. Gleason this morning. The members of the show involved with this incident have been suspended indefinitely pending further management review of their actions.”

If you’d like to voice a complaint to 790 the Zone, you can e-mail Rick Mack at rick.mack@lincolnfinancialmedia.com.
