As its name implies, the People's Choice Awards speak on behalf of the people, and their voices were loud and clear when G-Eazy took home the trophy for Favorite Hip-Hop Artist at the 2017 awards show.

The When It's Dark Out artist showed love to his supporting fans shortly after his win, tweeting, "Love and respect to the fans yall are the reason we're here in the first place and get to do the shit we do, forever grateful." It's clear he's got a lot to be grateful for.

In winning the Favorite Hip-Hop Artist award, the Oakland rapper bested award show luminaries like Kanye West, Kendrick Lamar, Wiz Khalifa and DJ Khaled. Needless to say, that's pretty elite company.

For G-Eazy, this award means that his attempts to find his own sound paid some serious dividends. In the Fall 2015 edition of XXL Magazine, the Cali rapper spoke on how ignoring his self-consciousness led him to producing a style more uniquely his own.

“I want people to connect and identify with the stories and hope it means something a year from now or more,” G-Eazy explained. “You make music within this lonely space in a room with no windows for months on end. And then you just put it out. All you can do is dig deep and pour out everything you have.”

Young Gerald celebrated the moment by sharing his trophy with his Snapchat fam. Take a look at G-Eazy's big win below.
