Filmmaker Dave Meinert was told that his dog didn't have much time to live, so he decided to film her every day.

Meinert tells Buzzfeed that her rescued Pegasus from backyard breeders when she was just a puppy. Most of her siblings either died after birth or were deformed—for what reason, he will never know.

Pegasus saw vet after vet, and even though she was a happy puppy, she always seemed to have "one manageable problem after another manageable problem." Even though Meinert was aware of the complications that came with Danes, he was in love with the breed being that he had one in the family.

Unfortunately, doctors told Meinert that even if Pegasus lived she would eventually go deaf and blind, so the South African filmmaker decided to record every day they had left together.

SPOILER ALERT: There were a lot of days—so many, that eventually Meinert's schedule became to overwhelming to keep Pegasus.

Subsequent to making the video, I had to travel a lot, and struggled with keeping her where I was living. A saviour stepped in and helped look after Pegs while I tried to make a plan and she moved back and forth, which was disruptive for her. Her new set up with incredible love, a bigger garden and a new best friend in Luna, another Great Dane was more than I could offer. I am lucky that I get to visit and take her for short periods, and maybe that’s why in my heart she’s still with me.

Even though he wasn't able to keep her, Dave should feel good knowing that he gave Pegasus the ultimate gift of life.
