Ragin’ Cajuns Named The ‘Most Admired’ Football Program In Louisiana

LSU is undoubtably the strongest football program in Louisiana, but a recent Wall Street Journal ranking says when it comes to the most admirable team the Ragin' Cajuns rank the highest in their home state.

The Wall Street Journal's 'College Football Grid Of Shame' ranks the top 128 major college football programs based on how good (and how shameful) they are—on, and off the field. One axis on the chart measures where the teams rank from "weakling" to "powerhouse," while the other axis measures on a scale of "embarrassing" to "admirable."

As far as the methodology used to come up with the rankings, the Wall Street Journal used numerous factors from each team like projected finish, academics, NCAA violations, probation, revenue percentages, attendance—and something they call the "ick" factor.

While the Cajuns are the most admired football program in the state according to the WSJ chart, it should be noted that LSU isn't too far behind in the respective category. We can only assume the program's recent string of off-the-field issues and arrests had a negative effect on their ranking.

Also, it would be completely unfair to point out where the Tigers fell short amongst Louisiana teams and not recognize how they absolutely dominated when it came to the strength of their football program.

Not only is LSU rated highest in the state on the powerhouse scale, but the Tigers are ranked among the best of all 128 major programs in the country.

Thats pretty impressive, if you ask me.

Without a doubt this will only stir the pot in the friendly intrastate rivalry between LSU and UL (just check the comments on this NOLA.com article), but with their recent success and improvements under head coach Mark Hudspeth, how can you not admire the Ragin' Cajuns?

Hopefully, Cajuns fans and Tigers fans alike will celebrate the positive national recognition of these Louisiana teams putting our great state on the map.
