Rapper Prince Harvey found himself in a bind when he couldn't finish recording his new album, so he finished producing it in an Apple Store.

The young artist told The Daily Beast that it was never his intention to record his album in the SoHo Apple Store in New York City.

First, my computer died. Then my external [hard drive] died. New York is expensive. I couldn’t just buy another laptop. I just thought, ‘I’m going to die before anyone knows I’m hot.’

When Harvey's hard drive was stolen his back was against the wall to get his album completed. It was a tall order, but was determined to get the project done, so he went down to the Apple Store and finished recording vocals and all the backing instrumentals.

Harvey sang, rapped and hummed into one of the display computers at the SoHo Apple Store five days a week for four months straight. The display computers are wiped clean every night at midnight, but the young rapper got around that by storing the files in the trash bin.

He also stored files on thumb drives and leaned on the assistance of two Apple Store employees who would "bend the rules" to help him out. Having barely any money and even being kicked out of his Brooklyn apartment, Harvey never gave up.

Poor is a mentality,” he said. “I mean, I can be broke—no money in my pocket—but I’ve never been poor. I’ve been rich my whole life. But I do want money. I want to tour. I want to perform for different people. I’m just a creator. I want to inspire other people to create—show them that you don’t need all these things to be successful.

Prince Harvey's album is called PHATASS—a clever acronym that stands for Prince Harvey At The Apple Store: SoHo—and drops on July 26.
