If you happen to notice a lot of activity at Cajun Field on this Sunday afternoon it's not Coach Hud calling a rare Sunday scrimmage. It's more than thirty of our states top high school marching bands strutting their stuff for the Louisiana Showcase of Marching Bands.

This year's showcase event was moved to Sunday because of weather and I am betting the organizers are feeling pretty good about their decision. The weather for today should be rain free but breezy and cool so if you're planning on going make sure you take a jacket.

This event that is sponsored by the University of Louisiana's Pride of Acadiana Marching Band and Lafayette Music Company. It is an annual event that marks the end of the traditional fall marching season. For many seniors this marks the final time they will march under the colors of their high school band so emotions run high. Here is today's schedule of featured bands so you'll know when to be in the stands to support your favorites.

What also makes this competition unique is that non of the bands are charged an entry fee to participate. The monies generated through ticket sales and concessions are either used to fund music scholarships at U.L. or are given back to the participating bands to help fund their programs.

As a former Lafayette High School Band parent I can tell you personally this is an amazing afternoon. The talent and hard work that you will see displayed on the field will take your breath away. You will rise to your feet to cheer each of these bands for their inspired performance and dedication to a quality program.

Tickets for today's Showcase of Bands are available at Cajun Field they are $15 for adults and $5 for students from fifth grade through college. Kids in fourth grade and younger are admitted free.
