When you buy something new you get that little white packet, keep it, and here's why.

First off, DO NOT eat the Silica Gel the warnings are clear, plus I have no idea why you would want to eat them.

Inside the Silica Gel pack are little tiny balls of silicon dioxide. All they is remove moisture and keep things dry. That is their main purpose.

According to MylittleThirstySpot.com you can use them for other things like:

  1. Drying out a wet cell phone: If it falls into water, remove the battery and any memory cards then toss the phone into a bowl filled with the silica packets, then leave it there over night.
  2. Protect your photos: If you like the old school way of actually having the photo in your hand and not on a thumb drive this is perfect for you. Just put the packets into the box where you store your photos.
  3. Keep your luggage from smelling bad: How many times a year do you actually use your luggage? If the answer is not that often then this is perfect. Not only will it keep the inside of your luggage dry it will also keep the stink out of it and will help with the extend life of your luggage.
  4. Protect Documents: Just like the photos, just drop them in the baggie or where you store your important documents. Birth Certificates, Car Pink slips etc. etc...
  5. Windows:  Are the windows in your house always filled with moisture.(This is a change of seasons problem.) Put the packets on the still to absorb that moisture.
  6. Car windshield:  This is a problem that most people have...Foggy windshield. Put some packets under the windscreen of your car and watch the magic happen, no longer so you have to wait forever for your windshield to defrost.

There are many uses for the silica packets, don't throw them away. Check out the web site 'My Thirsty Spot' for more uses of silica packets today.
