In an email sent to Ochsner Health employees, the company informed staff they will be laying off 770 employees...today.

Royal Dutch Shell announced on Wednesday that it is planning to cut between 7,000 and 9,000 jobs worldwide by the end of 2022 as a result of a collapse in demand for oil and the subsequent dip in oil prices amidst the coronavirus pandemic.

The layoffs, blamed on the COVID-19 pandemic, will take effect July 1st and include almost 250 employees at Evangeline Downs in St. Landry Parish.

Lafayette Mayor-President Josh Guillory's office announced today that there are layoffs coming for employees of Lafayette Consolidated Government.

These numbers were reported by the Louisiana Workforce Commission.

The oil field service company says the 36 positions were eliminated earlier this month.

The layoffs come from many city departments and affect mainly part-time employees.

Unstable financial markets and concerns over COVID-19 have prompted the actions in which about 70 people will lose their jobs.

Waitr has announced it will be "refocusing its operations in Lafayette."

It's always sad to hear of folks losing their jobs. Frank's International has reported it has laid off a few employees at its Lafayette location.

Lafayette-based MidSouth Bank is expected to lay off 90 workers, that according to a notice on file with the Louisiana Workforce Commission.

Iberia Parish Sheriff Louis Ackal says the jail will remain staffed as is mandated by the state, and the patrol division will be fully staffed to provide law enforcement in city and Iberia Parish.

"Frank's International is implementing adjustments in response to the challenging market conditions in our industry," says Marketing Coordinator Celina Allemand Michel.

The employees will be given helping in getting other work at other Chevron locations, and the company says they will offer severance to people who can't secure work.

Its been an on-going debate for many years and it will continue to be a "hot topic," teachers are not compensated fairly and now some are being left without a job. The State of Louisiana, like the rest of the country, is going through some really tough financial times. Cuts are being made in several areas, yet the one area that could least afford more cuts is being slashed, education!!!
