Things Fall Apart is considered one of the most important books to come out of Africa. The book’s author, Chinua Achebe, is a respected novelist, poet, professor and critic. So when the producers of 50 cent’s film of the same name tried to pay the author $1 million to keep the name, he said no.

When news first came out about the film Things Fall Apart, Achebe’s foundation contacted the producers to let them know they were violating his copyright. In an attempt to keep the title, the author was offered $1 million was offered to the author.

In response to the offer, Achebe’s rep stated:

“The novel with the said title was initially produced in 1958 (that is 17 years before rapper 50 Cent was born), listed as the mostly read book in modern African literature, and won’t be sold for even one billion dollars.”

So the movie producers and the marketing company distributing the movie, Image Entertainment, switched the title to ‘All Things Fall Apart.’

Sorry Fiddy, you can’t always get what you want.
