Movoto Real Estate Ranks The 10 Sexiest Places In Louisiana—Did They Get It Right?

According to Movoto Real Estate, the sexiest place in the state of Louisiana is New Orleans—but where did the rest of the state rank?

It should come as no surprise that New Orleans was ranked number one on the list. The party never ends, and being on your worst behavior is—how you say, encouraged? But I'm willing to bet that anyone that is actually FROM Louisiana will agree that the rest of the rankings look a little funny in the light.

Personally, I've alway boasted that Lafayette is hometown to some of the sexiest people on earth, let alone Louisiana. Many friends from out of town have wholeheartedly agreed upon visiting—but based on the ranking of the sexiest places in The Boot, Lafayette found itself at the number eight spot.

Before anyone calls me a homer, I must say that Baton Rouge's ranking of #14 is even more suspect than Lafayette's #8 position on the list.

So how did the Hub City end up ranking so low on Movoto's list? Well, the first place we need to look at is the methodology used to come up with the sexiest places. According to the real estate blog,

This ranking was based on data from the 2010 U.S. Census, the National Weather Service, and business listings rather than personal preference. Using those sources, we examined all places in Louisiana with populations of at least 10,000 people in the following steamy criteria:

• Nightlife per capita (bars, clubs, comedy, etc.)
• Lingerie stores per capita
• Adult stores per capita (novelties, videos, etc.)
• Adult entertainment per capita (strip clubs, burlesque, use your imagination…)
• Massage parlors per capita
• Hotels per capita
• Average summer temperature (hotter = fewer clothes = better)

After we got that data, we ranked each place in each category from one to 58, with scores closer to one being sexier. Then, we averaged each place’s scores into one overall Big Deal Score. The place with the lowest number for that score became our sexiest place.

Weather? Really? I was totally unaware that there were places in Louisiana that were hotter than others in the summertime. By all means, if there is a place in Louisiana that doesn't require you changing your clothes after checking the mail between June and September, please let me know where that place is so I can retreat there for the SWELTERING summer months.

But I digress.

Basically, it seems as if this measurement was based off of strip clubs, bars, cheap motels, and those adult novelty stores that you see off the side of the highway in small towns. (see places ranked before Lafayette for examples)

I can't blame Movoto—a real-estate company based out of the Bay Area in Cali—for a list that may not add up for people who actually live IN Louisiana. They're just using their research to come up with fun topics and lists for their blog.

Plus, it makes for really good conversation. (we're talking about it, aren't we?)

So, instead of totally trashing them, we're going to use this ranking as a platform to ask all our Louisiana residents to tell us what places (towns, cities, etc.) are the sexiest in the state, and what place you think deserves the number one spot!
