Hurricane Laura has unfortunately caused at least three fatalities in Louisiana. All three deaths are from trees falling onto their homes.

According to KATC, 60-year-old man died in Iota, Louisiana after a tree fell on him. CNN reports that a man in Jackson Parish died from a tree falling onto his home. And a 14-year-old girl also died when a tree fell on her home. Governor John Bel Edwards received information on the 14-year-old girl as being the first US fatality from Hurricane Laura.

Luckily, many people evacuated for Hurricane Laura and the storm surge was not as bad as many feared. Both Louisiana and Texas governors say search and rescue teams are still out looking, but it is still the beginning stages of search and rescue, along with assessing the damage.

Hurricane Laura took the lives of nearly two dozen people in the Caribbean before it hit the US.
