Buffalo Wild Wings' corporate office is apologizing for a tweet that offended some Saints fans over the weekend.

A few days ago we reported on the backlash that BWW faced after a tweet joked about Saints fans "drawing up lawsuits" after yet ANOTHER questionable call while the Saints were playing the Rams (of all teams) this past Sunday.

To make matters worse, a tweet that was an obvious harmless joke did not age well after the Saints unfolded once it was realized that an apparent hand injury would keep Drew Brees sidelined for the remainder of the game.

Fans didn't hold back with their frustration with some even vowing to boycott the chain restaurant in the greater New Orleans area. Even local franchise owners were "flummoxed" by the reaction from Saints fans, especially when they noticed a dip in their profits.

A spokesperson for Buffalo Wild Wings issued an apology via email, claiming that the tweet was "intended as a sympathetic joke, not a slight."

I'm going to say their apology (which really wasn't necessary) is genuine, especially since their social media director is a member of the Who Dat Nation.

We intended to point out another bad call in a fun way. In fact, our Director of Social Media is a die-hard Saints fan who attended the NFC Championship game earlier this year.

Amit Patel is the local Buffalo Wild Wings franchise owner in New Orleans who is also a nine-year Saints season ticket holder. Patel says he saw a drop-off in dining and is all but certain that it was connected to the controversy that "blindsided" him.

We are locally owned, we’re part of the Who Dat Nation, we love the Saints. We were trending OK through lunch, but by dinner we saw sales drop.

Patel says he feels better now that an apology has been issued.

Moral of the story: Saints fans are a ridiculously passionate bunch. Don't encourage them.
