The St. Martin Parish Sheriff's Office says high water continues to be an issue with many parts of their parish.

Because of this, the Sheriff's Office says the decision has been made to close the Butte LaRose Pontoon Bridge starting at noon on Sunday, May 26.

The closure will be until further notice.

Engineers and members of the Public Works Department of St. Martin Parish recommended the closure of the Bridge, and Parish President Chester Cedars says that is his order.

It's all about the structural integrity of the bridge, and so Cedars says the best thing to do right is close it down.

There is no official word on when the estimate that the water might become low enough to open up the bridge, but they will inform the public when they do.

If you have questions, you can call the St. Martin Parish Office of Emergency Preparedness. Their number is 337-394-2808.
