Ellie Goulding Drops New Song ‘Hanging On’ Featuring Tinie Tempah
Acclaimed U.K. singer Ellie Goulding has just premiered a new track featuring rapper Tinie Tempah called ‘Hanging On.’ The singer made the reveal in a Facebook post, writing, “Here’s the beginning of my new journey. Enjoy and share responsibly.”
‘Hanging On’ is much different than Goulding’s current dance hit, ‘Lights,’ which has finally moved into the Top 10 nearly two years after its release. ‘Hanging On’ features gentle instrumentation that puts the focus on Goulding’s vocals as she sings:
“You know we can get away / Because I’m calling your name / Every day I feel this pain / But you just turn and walk away / I just can’t keep hanging on to you and me / I just don’t know what is wrong with you and me.”
Tempah’s cameo takes the song in an entirely different direction and breaks up the flow of what had been a delicate, almost mystical track. Tempah is much more blunt when he raps, “Give me the respect, forgive me and forget / We’ve got to get a grip, living on the edge / I barely even know this f—ing woman in my bed.”
Though some fans would probably prefer ‘Hanging On’ without the guest rap verse, Tempah has worked with Goulding in the past and seems like a logical choice to have on the track. The song will most likely appear on Goulding’s second album, which she hopes to release later this year.
