Have You Had Enough With the Trucks With Bright Lights?

At first, I thought I was getting too old to drive at night. The headlights of vehicles, in particular trucks, are blinding at night. Then I realized, it had nothing to do with my age or eyesight but everything to do with the intensity of the new LED headlight bulbs. The second thing I thought about is—are people driving around with their "brights" on?

Not long ago, I witnessed someone get out of their vehicle at a red light, walk to the truck with bright headlamps stopped behind him and confronted the driver. I thought, oh wow, this isn't going to go well. Luckily, only words were exchanged and the driver from the vehicle in front of the truck got back into his car.

Recently, while traveling on Ambassador Caffery Parkway in Lafayette at night, it seemed like almost every vehicle traveling in the opposite direction of me was a truck with either headlights that were overly bright or was driving around with their "brights" on. It also seemed as though every vehicle behind me was a truck with blinding headlights.

For some time, some American drivers have been convinced that an epidemic of headlight-induced blindness is underway on the roads.-Slate.com

A bipartisan infrastructure bill recently passed that will require regulators to equip vehicles with technology that will use software to automatically adjust headlights so that they are not blinding. This comes after thousands of complaints.

I guess I'm not the only one feeling blinded by the light.
