Cruise Ship Water Slide Breaks, Passenger Injured
(KMDL-FM) An ocean-going cruise ship popular with cruise guests who sail out of Louisiana's Port of New Orleans and the Port of Galveston in Texas has hit a bit of a snag while underway. The incident happened last week on board the Icon of the Seas, one of the jewels of the Royal Caribbean fleet.
The Icon of the Seas is the world's largest cruise ship. According to the official Royal Caribbean website, the ship boasts 20 decks, seven swimming pools, and six water slides. One of those slides is said to be the tallest waterslide on any cruise ship currently under sail.

The issue on board the Icon of the Seas last week had to do with one of those water slides. Based on reports and video from the scene, a piece of acrylic plastic, which was used to manufacture the slide, broke as a guest was sliding.

Did a Guest Fall Through The Water Slide on the Icon of the Seas?
Contrary to what can be heard on some videos from the scene, the guest did not fall through the hole in the slide. However, there were reports of a guest being injured. An unconfirmed report suggested the injury was a "significant laceration," but the only official information we've received regarding the guest's condition is that they were in stable condition and undergoing treatment.
Here is a video from the scene:
The waterslide in question is called the Frightening Bolt. Operation of that waterslide was suspended following the incident, and guests were not allowed to use it. The 46-foot-high slide is part of the ship's Thrill Island area. It includes a trap door launch and a 360-degree loop.
Where Is The Icon of the Seas Heading Now?
The incident happened on August 7th last week. The Icon of the Seas was due to arrive in Miami on Saturday, August 9th. The ship is currently on a heading that will take it to Saint Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands. The ship is expected to arrive in St Thomas on Tuesday.
