When Does Pumpkin Spice Latte Return to Louisiana?
School bells will be ringing in Delcambre, Dubach, and Duson, Louisiana over the next few weeks. Students will be returning to classes at LSU in Baton Rouge, UL in Lafayette, and McNeese State in Lake Charles too. It won't be too much longer until our weekends will be consumed with football from the Friday night lights to the always poor officiating of Sunday afternoon.
And if those signs of fall weren't enough to capture your attention then there is one more sign of fall that rings true every year just like Ugg Boots and puffer vests, it is the return of the Pumpkin Spice Latte. We are speaking specifically of the Pumpkin Spice Latte as served by Starbucks.
Do you recall when the very first Pumpkin Spice Latte was debuted by Starbucks? It's been a lot longer than you think. How about 2003? Yeah, it's been more than 20 years. And now we're "eagerly" anticipating the return of the "tastes like fall" beverage to the Starbucks menu.
For the uninitiated pumpkin spice is a combination of cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, allspice, and cloves. Not all recipes use all of those ingredients but you can bet most of them do. It's the same combination of spices you would incorporate in the making of a pumpkin pie, hence the name, "pumpkin spice".
We know it won't be when the weather cools off because that would be January in South Louisiana but we do have some past history that we can use for guidance in making a prediction for the return of PSL as Starbucks fans like to call the drink.
Here's when Starbucks started selling Pumpkin Spice Latte in previous years:
- 2023: Thursday, August 24
- 2022: Tuesday, August 30
- 2021: Tuesday, August 24
- 2020: Tuesday, August 25
- 2019: Tuesday, August 27
- 2018: Tuesday, August 28
Based on our best guess and some inside information from some sources at Starbucks, we believe the Pumpkin Spice Latte will be returning on Thursday, August 22. An employee who shall remain nameless suggested that would be the day when the new fall menu drops so that's what we are going with.
If it's not August 22nd then it will be August 27th. And no, Starbucks has not officially commented on when the drink will be available. Meanwhile, if you just can't wait, I bet some of the other coffee shops around town would be glad to make you a PSL. Or you could just go with iced coffee because it's too hot to be drinking stuff that's too hot.
