The personal finance website WalletHub has released its report on 2024's Best States to Live In and Louisiana ranked 50th

What was the methodology for making the Best States to Live In list?

To comprise the list, WalletHub compared the 50 states across 51 key indicators of livability—those range from housing costs and income growth to the education rate and hospital systems.

Below are some of the rankings for the Bayou State.

Living Conditions in Louisiana (1 = Best; 25 = Avg.):

  • 40th - Housing Costs
  • 24th - Homeowner Rate
  • 49th - % of Population in Poverty
  • 47th - Income Growth
  • 29th - % of Insured Population
  • 46th - % of Adults in Fair or Poor Health
  • 45th - Avg. Weekly Work Hours
  • 27th - Restaurants per Capita

Compositely, Louisiana received a 41.31 total score. In comparison, the top state's score was 60.52.

The top 10 states to live in according to this WalletHub report are as follows:

Massachusetts is the best state to live in, largely due to its strong healthcare system and high-quality education.

The state has the lowest premature death rate in the country and the lowest share of adults in fair or poor health. It also has the highest share of residents with health insurance coverage, at 97.3%.
