I had an invite from the Louisiana Jeepers club to join them for birthday gumbo last night, and they surprised me with a hand-made cypress bar to auction at the 'jeep jaunt'.

I knew that they were working on a project to be donated to the event, but had no clue as to what it would be.  Imagine my surprise when I saw this thing!

Chris and Phyllis built it by hand, from scratch (the wood was donated by Brenda, it used to be part of her dad's barn), and when I asked how many man-hours it took to complete the project, Chris said "about 14 cases"!  We all got a good laugh out of that one.

They started on the project in August, and it's almost finished.  The foot rail and a few other touch-ups are all that are left, and then it will be auctioned off at the 'jeep jaunt' on October 25th.

The Louisiana Jeepers are just one of the Jeep clubs that not only attend the 'jeep jaunt', but play a very active role in helping us raise money by collecting donations of goods and services to be auctioned or given at the jaunt.

If you would like to attend the 'jeep jaunt', but you don't have a Jeep or 4x4, you can just arrive at Cyress Bayou Casino Hotel and pay $10 to get in.  You'll get a meal, and you'll have the opportunity to help us with the auction, all to raise money for the American Lung Association.

Also, on a personal note: the Louisiana Jeepers helped me celebrate my birthday last night.  Not only did they unveil the awesome bar that they built, but the had prepared gumbo and had cake for my birthday.  It's true what "they" say: family isn't always blood.
