Lafayette Police held a press conference this morning to update the community on two homicides that happened recently, and to ask the public for their help.

Lafayette Police Chief Jim Craft says they believe tips will help them find the person or persons responsible for the murder of 32-year-old Aaron Brooks on May 8th, and the murder of 51-year-old Scottie Alfred on May 24.

The two homicides, which possibly could be related, happened in Lafayette City Parish Councilman Kenneth Boudreaux's district four.

Investigators from the Lafayette Police Department continue to investigate leads in both cases, but they are hoping that more information about the two homicides will lead to a definitive suspect in either case.

Brooks was robbed and shot multiple times in his home. That crime occurred on Foch Street. Alfred was shot multiple times inside of a car parked in front of a home in the 500 block of Northeast Evangeline Thruway right near its intersection with Mudd Avenue.

Police say their interviews have yielded a witness who says a car that was seen in the area of the one of the crimes was a Jeep SUV with factory rims.

Another witness told police a black male with a thin build could also be a person of interest in the case.

Councilman Boudreaux along with Lafayette Police are asking anyone with information to call them.  You can call Councilman Boudreaux's office at (337) 291-8804, or you can reach out to him on Facebook.

Police say the Crime Stoppers line also offers people with information to report that information in an anonymous manor by calling 232-TIPS.

Corporal Paul Mouton says it is possible the two cases are related to drugs, but police can't say that for certain at this time.

Chief Jim Craft says it is likely that the two men at least knew of each other.
