Lafayette Crime Stoppers is asking for the public's help to identify a thief they suspect of using stolen credit cards to purchase over $5,000 in gift cards.

According to authorities, a victim was shopping at Albertson's (4400 block of Ambassador Caffery Parkway) in Lafayette around 2:20 p.m. on February 23, 2023, when a female was observed on camera appearing to reach into the victim's "purse area" stealing a wallet.

Police say the female was also seen leaving the Alberton's store to travel to "several businesses" in the area, allegedly using credit cards from the stolen wallet to purchase several gift cards at three different business locations.

In total, authorities say the woman made $5,653.61 in gift card purchases.
