Louisiana Man Arrested As Authorities Seize Dozens Of Neglected Pigs
Local lawn enforcement in Louisiana has been cracking down on animal abuse across Acadiana. Typically, they are called to handle neglected dogs or cats, but this case doesn't involve either.
New 15 reported that a Lafayette man was placed under arrest and charged with 29 counts of cruelty to animals, specifically pigs.
The Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office performed an investigation after being contacted by the Lafayette Animal Control Officers, who requested help with a case involving pigs.
Harold Davis, age 61, owns property in the 100 block of Sellers Road. Davis has been issued multiple citations by animal control in the past for animals roaming and cleanliness standards not being up to par with state requirements for pet owners.
The Sheriff's Office discovered that the pigs were not living in proper conditions and the state of the property was in violation of Louisiana animal care laws.

Based on the evidence gathered at Davis' property, the property was deemed unfit for the pigs. Lafayette Animal Control Officers seized the bigs, and Davis was arrested.
According to News 14, Davis was booked into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center on 29 counts of cruelty to animals. The first offense of simple animal cruelty can result in a fine of $1,000, and imprisonment for up to 6 months, or both.
Individuals can report suspected animal cruelty to local law enforcement or animal control agencies, who are responsible for investigating and enforcing these laws.
Louisiana takes animal cruelty seriously, and the penalties can be quite severe, especially for repeated or aggravated offenses.
