Man Cooks Gumbo With Lemons And Oranges, Says This Is ‘Real New Orleans Gumbo’ [Video]

Houston resident John Sigears posted this Facebook video showing him cooking what he claims is "real New Orleans style gumbo". The problem is his gumbo has lemons and oranges in it, as well as shrimp and sausage. What the heck is going on here?

As you'll see in the video below, Sigears describes what he's cooking as "real New Orleans style gumbo". That's right, gumbo. With oranges and lemons in it.

Could be that Sigears really meant to say "real New Orleans style boil" instead? Or, is he on to a secret style of Louisiana gumbo we've never heard of?

Here's the thing, although he lives in Houston he attended John Ehret High School in Marrero, so he should definitely know what he's talking about.

Or, could it be that the joke is on all of us and John knows exactly what he's doing?

However. I did a quick google of "gumbo with oranges" and guess what? I found an article on nola.com from 2014 about Lafayette's Black Pot Festival. In the article, the author talks about eating a "delicious satsuma and pork gumbo".

Clearly, we have more questions than answers...
