Lafayette Man Killed In Three-Vehicle Crash On W. Gloria Switch Road In Carencro
A 22-year-old Lafayette man has died following a three-vehicle crash that temporarily shut down a portion of W. Gloria Switch Road in Carencro on Tuesday morning.
Carencro Police have identified the victim as Marcus Patterson, who suffered critical injuries in the crash and later died at a local hospital.
Police Say Driver Crossed Center Line
According to Carencro Police, officers were called to W. Gloria Switch Road near Turf Road shortly after 7 a.m. Tuesday in reference to a serious crash involving three vehicles.
Investigators determined that Patterson was traveling westbound on W. Gloria Switch Road when, for reasons that remain under investigation, his vehicle crossed the center line into oncoming traffic.
Police say Patterson's vehicle first collided with a truck pulling a trailer that was traveling eastbound. After that impact, his vehicle continued and struck a second vehicle head-on.
Driver Succumbed To Injuries At Hospital
Patterson was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries. Authorities say he succumbed to those injuries shortly after arriving at the hospital.
Police noted that Patterson was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
As part of standard fatal crash procedures, a toxicology sample was collected. Investigators say there is currently no evidence that alcohol played a role in the crash, though toxicology results are still pending.
Other Drivers Survived The Crash
According to police, the driver and passengers in the truck and trailer involved in the initial collision were not injured.
The driver of the second vehicle, who police say was properly restrained, suffered moderate injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Investigation Continues
The crash forced the closure of W. Gloria Switch Road for several hours Tuesday morning while investigators processed the scene. The roadway has since reopened to traffic.
Police have not said what may have caused Patterson to cross into the opposite lane, and the investigation remains ongoing.
Anyone with information about the crash is encouraged to contact the Carencro Police Department.
