Original Story
A Louisiana family is asking for the public's help in locating their missing service dog, Mav.
Gracie Langham told WWL-TV that she got into a car accident on Halloween night when her vehicle lost traction due to all the rain that evening. Mav was spooked from the airbags deploying, and she has not seen him since.
"All of the airbags deployed, and Mav was very scared, and I was very scared, and I had to kick the door out. He sprinted away from me, and I was screaming his name and running as fast as I could behind him, but I lost him."
The community has rallied behind the Langham's families efforts to bring Mav home, sharing posts on Facebook and lining I-10 with signs in hopes that someone can provide information about his whereabouts.
Mav provides emotional support and helps detect food items that contain nuts, which is crucial for Gracie because she has a severe nut allergy. She explains that "whenever he would detect nuts, he would paw at my shin," letting her know that the food she was about to consume could harm her.
Gracie Langham said that after the accident, she immediately started searching for him and "screaming for him, and looking for him, and there were a few people that did say they saw a golden retriever running on I-10 and that a red vehicle had pulled over and stopped and they were holding him on the side."
The family has been placing items with Gracie's sent on them along with water bowls in areas where people have spotted Mav.
The Humane Society of Louisiana is now offering a $5,750 reward for Mav's safe return. Luckily Mav is microchipped and all Veterinarians in the area have been alerted in case someone happens to bring him in to get scanned.
Please get in touch with 337-517-1997 if you have any information regarding Mav's whereabouts.
There is also a Facebook page dedicated to collecting information about Mav and where he has been spotted around town.
Let's help bring Mav home.
