Thousands of people in Louisiana and along the Gulf Coast have been invested in finding Mav, the service dog that went missing on Halloween night.

Mav's owner lost sight of him after she got into a car accident, but bystanders saw a red vehicle pick him up along I-10 in the New Orleans area.

After 8 days, Mav was finally reunited with his family. A man picked Mav up because he thought the dog had been dumped on the interstate. While he was reluctant to give Mav back since his two young children grew attached to the dog, he ended up sharing his location so that Mav's family could come to pick him up.

Good Samaritan Fired From Louisiana Vet Clinic

While the community is over the moon about Mav being reunited with his family, they also want justice for the good Samaritan who contacted the family about a potential lead on Mav.

According to a post made on her behalf by her boyfriend, she was torn between doing the right thing and not wanting to violate her clinic's policies. She decided to contact the family, but she did not offer up any personal information about who had the dog since sharing that information would be against the law and she could not afford to lose her job. She also requested to remain anonymous and clarified that she was not entirely sure it was their Mav but thought it could be.

However, days later, her manager approached her and informed her that the owner had come to the clinic and named her as the person who tipped them off about Mav and because of the incident, she was being let go.

"Good Morning Everyone,

I’m making this post to bring some light to a very important situation regarding the dog Maverick that was recently lost and found!
My girlfriend worked at a clinic in Metairie and was recently FIRED for trying help the owners of Maverick find him. Please read this, it needs to be heard.
Earlier this week, my girlfriend was at work like any other day at her vet clinic (she was a receptionist). She was asked by one of her coworkers to check out a couple who had been seen. She went to the exam room to let the people know they could come check out with her and they came out with a beautiful golden retriever. She was immediately taken back at how cute the dog was and so were her coworkers.
One of the other receptionists came up to pet the dog and asked the owner the dog’s name and the man who had him said his name was “Maverick". At the time, she didn’t think anything of it because she hadn’t seen the posts about “Mav” who was missing.
Later that day she was on her phone and seen a post about the missing dog and immediately noticed the striking resemblance of the dog she had just seen brought in along with it having the same exact name. *It’s important to mention that this dog wasn’t being brought in to be seen by the clinic, only the couples other dog.* As the day went on, she got off work, came home and had told me about the situation that had happened.
She was unsure about reporting the information to the owners because she didn’t know for sure if it was the dog but definitely had a feeling it was. I had told her, let’s just call these people, and explain to them that you want to remain anonymous so that your work doesn’t question your involvement in this. We ended up calling the owners of Mav and gave as much details as we legally could without violating any client confidentiality laws. She gave the owner a client description and the name of the dog that had come in. The woman who’s dog was lost was pressuring her to give up confidential information such as phone number, client names and addresses.
My girlfriend refused to give this information because that would be violating personal protection laws. She let the owners know that this was all the information she could legally give but that if the police needed to contact her she would be more than willing to speak with the authorities.
We made sure to reiterate to them that this conversation must remain confidential, and to have the private investigator that they claimed to have working their case to handle it going forward. They agreed and ensured that her work would not know about her giving the tip on possibly seeing their dog.
The next day, the owner reached out again asking my girlfriend to slip her a name, phone number or address of the client seen at her job. My girlfriend refused and explained that she would be breaking the law by doing so and that she is a college student who relies heavily on this job to make ends meet.
Two days later, my girlfriend was at work and was approached by her manager explaining that she was being fired because that owner came into her job causing a scene, revealing that it was an employee who gave the tip of her dog possibly being seen here.
When she reached out to the owner explaining that her actions caused her to lose her job, she initially responded saying it wasn’t her intention. When my girlfriend asked if she would make a statement on her behalf that she never gave out any confidential information, she stopped responding to her.
We are obviously happy that they found their dog. We just feel like my girlfriend has been wronged here and it needs to be heard. Please do not ask for the name of the clinic, because moving forward we will be pursuing legal action."
