LSU fans have once again descended on Omaha for the College World Series, and if you think folks in Nebraska are annoyed by all the purple and gold? Think again.

In fact, they can’t wait.

I had the chance to visit Omaha early in 2024, months after LSU’s historic CWS win in 2023, and let’s just say, Louisiana folks have left behind more than just empty Jello Shot cups.

LSU Fans: More Than Just Party Animals

Omaha isn’t just tolerant of LSU fans. They love us.

From the staff at hotels and bars to Uber drivers and retired cops working security during the series, there’s a shared sentiment: LSU fans are the life of the College World Series. And more importantly, they’re respectful, generous, and fun.

A retired police officer turned Uber driver told me he volunteers to work during CWS weekends just to post up near LSU tailgates. “They feed you. They take care of you. And they’ll make sure you have a beer (or five) when your shift ends,” he told us with a smile that took up the entire rear view mirror.

Rocco’s and LSU's Jello Shot Legacy

Then there’s Rocco’s Pizza and Cantina, a now-legendary stop for LSU fans thanks to the annual CWS Jello Shot Challenge.

In 2023, LSU fans broke the all-time record with an insane 68,888 jello shots purchased—each one supporting local and Baton Rouge food banks.

That’s over $68,000 in charitable donations, fueled entirely by fan support.

When I visited in February, the whiteboard tally was still proudly displayed, like a badge of honor.

You could feel how much the staff adored Louisianans. They weren’t just customers; they spoke about us like we were family.

A Reputation Worth Protecting

This year, LSU fans are already leading the pack again. As of this afternoon, they were over 5,000 shots, nearly doubling the nearest rival school and over 2,000 Jello Shots ahead of where they were the last time the Tigers made the trip to Nebraska.

But the real story isn’t about alcohol. It’s about hospitality and the reputation Louisiana fans have built over decades of returning to Omaha like it’s a second home.

So if you're headed up this year, remember this: our presence is a present. Be kind. Tip well. Drink responsibly (even while breaking records). And most importantly, keep representing Louisiana in the best way possible.
