Opelousas Caregiver Accused of Stealing Thousands From Elderly Person

45-year-old Jennifer Guillory of Opelousas now sits in the St. Landry Parish Jail after she allegedly bought items, paid personal bills, and had checks made out to her dead father using the account of a 93-year-old person she was supposed to be caring for.

According to a press release from the St. Landry Parish Sheriff's Office, a family member of the elderly person contacted them on April 26 to report discrepancies between the victim's bank statements, noting the account balance had been physically altered and several pages of statement from March 2021 were missing. Detectives say Guillory was the victim's in-home caregiver. She would pick up groceries, grab the mail, run errands and provide companionship to the victim. Guillory also had access to the victim's bank card, access code, checkbook and banking statements starting in February of 2021.

The family member compared a copy of the statement from the bank and compared it to the March 2021 bank statement and noticed a difference of $9,000 between the two balances and transactions that consisted of ATM withdrawals, online purchases, personal bill payments and three checks made out to Guillory's father, who died in December of 2020. The checks totaled $10,500. All of these transactions were allegedly made without authorization from the victim or the family members.

Guillory has been charged with 10 counts of Exploitation of Persons with Infirmities. Her bond was set for $50,000.
