UPDATE: Police say a man they suspect of killing his girlfriend in Metairie and fleeing with his three children afterward is in custody in Texas.

Detectives say 24-year-old Heidi Monroy died of blunt-force trauma to the head.

The suspect is identified as 43-year-old Pedro Alberto Monterroso-Navas.  The children he took off with are 12, four and two-years-old and are reportedly okay.

The Jefferson Parish Sheriff's office says Monterroso-Navas was taken into custody shortly after 2 a.m.

Colonel John Fortunato says the homicide took place inside an apartment in Metairie early Sunday, and the five children were in the home when the murder occurred.

Fortunato says a 5-year-old and 8-year-old told a neighbor their mother was in a bathrub, and they couldn't wake her up.

An autopsy is scheduled for today.

The man faces 2nd-degree murder charges.

UPDATE 6:26 p.m. The Jefferson Parish Sheriff's office says a 43-year-old man from Honduras killed his live-in girlfriend early Sunday morning while five children were inside the home. The hunt for the suspect and his children continues.

Col. John Fortunato says the homicide took place inside an apartment in Metairie.

"Two children discovered their mother lying in the bathtub bleeding profusely from the head," Fortunato said. "It was then they ran next door and asked the neighbor to call police."

Metairie's WWLTV is reporting the victim is 24-year-old Heidi Monroy.

Authorities say five children were in the home when the murder occurred. Fortunato says a 5-year-old and 8-year-old alerted a neighbor their mother was unresponsive in a bathtub. He says the Monroy died from blunt force trauma to the head, and an autopsy is scheduled for Monday.

Fortunato says 43-year-old Pedro Alberto Monterroso-Navas faces second-degree murder charges. Authorities are searching for the suspected killer — who may also use the name Wilson Rigoberto Mina — and who fled with three of the children living inside the home.

The 2-year-old is the biological son of Monroy and Monterroso-Navas. The 4- and 12-year-olds are Monterroso-Navas' biological children, while the 5- and 8-year-olds are Monroy's biological children who reported the victim unresponsive.

ORIGINAL: The Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office and Louisiana State Police are looking for a murder suspect who abducted three children after allegedly murdering their mother.

Jessica Nicolle Monterroso (pictured), is a 14-year-old Hispanic female with black hair and dark colored eyes. Yojan Manuel Monterroso-Flores, is a 4-year-old Hispanic male with black hair and dark colored eyes. Jafet Abigaitl Monterroso-Monroy (pictured), is a 2-year-old hispanic male with black hair and dark colored eyes.
