New Orleans Saints Reach 4-Year Deal with Pro Bowl QB Derek Carr
The New Orleans Saints have reached a deal with Pro Bowl quarterback Derek Carr.
UPDATE:
Derek Carr has personally confirmed that he will be headed to the Big Easy by dropping a simple tweet.
The news was first reported by NFL Network's Mike Garafalo; and even though he called him "David" Carr, Saints fans were elated to see the news come across the wire on Monday morning that the Saints were favored to get their guy.
Soon, Ian Rapoport followed with an image of Carr in a New Orleans uniform, complimenting the look of the Pro Bowl quarterback in black and gold.
While nothing is officially official, NFL insider Adam Schefter tweeted that an agreement could be reached "as early as today," according to league sources.
According to Tom Pelissero, Carr has always preferred New Orleans over other reported suitors like the New York Jets and the Carolina Panthers.
Ian Rapoport says the deal will be a 4-year contract, which lines up with the report that the Saints saw Carr as a long-term solution.
Dennis Allen as the Saints head coach was surely a factor in Carr's decision to choose New Orleans as Allen chose Carr in the NFL draft back in 2014. It seems like a reunion is in order.
A few stories to follow will now be related to the future of Jameis Winston and Andy Dalton, as well as the Saints working things out with top receiver Michael Thomas.
As far as how the Saints landed Carr, Nick Underhill has followed the process since the moment Carr landed in NOLA a few weeks ago to meet with the team.
ESPN's Dianna Russini reported that the deal was pretty much done, but we'll wait for more official confirmation as the day moves on with these developing updates.
In the meantime, check out an extended video of Carr's career highlights from 2014-2022.
