Son Held On First Degree Murder Charges In Death Of Lafayette Man

Lafayette police responded to a call of shots fired about 3 PM on Sunday afternoon. That call came from a residence in the 400 block of Edison Street. Once on the scene officers discovered Ernest J. White Jr dead from an apparent gunshot wound.

Further investigation into the incident led to the arrest of White's son, Ernest J. White III. The younger white has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of his father. He will also be facing charges of Violation of a Protective Order, Possession of a Firearm by Convicted Felon and Possession of a Firearm with Obliterated Serial Number.

Lafayette Police say this is an ongoing investigation.
