It may look like a radar gun at first glance, but slowing down won't matter because speeding isn't what he is looking for.

A company out of Virginia called ComSonics is developing a gun that can detect if you're texting and driving or not.

Science is good!

According to Hampton Roads this is how it works,

"The technology works by detecting the telltale radio frequencies that emit from a vehicle when someone inside is using a cellphone."

According to Malcolm McIntyre the ComSonics service manager, text messages emit a different frequency than other cell phone activities. This is how the new gun will be able to detect if you're texting or using the cell phone.

Basically if you're texting and driving you will get caught! So don't text and drive.

ComSonics says the 'text-detection gun' is close to production but still has several hurdles to clear.  Like how can it detect if there are multiple people texting in the car or not.

There are 44 states  including Louisiana that have banned texting and driving, and from a safety standpoint, you shouldn't be texting anyway. I think they should come out with a gun that detects if you have alcohol in your system or not.
