Lafayette Police say they arrested a 28-year-old woman after her toddler was found wandering alone at a local hotel.

According to a report from KLFY News 10, officers responded to a hotel in the 1000 block of Pinhook after receiving word that a 4-year-old girl was "wandering the halls" wearing only a t-shirt.

Sgt. Robin Green says that Lafayette police officers went door to door in the hotel, but were "unable to locate anyone who knew the child" who was reportedly covered in feces with bumps on her body.

when officers entered the hotel, they located the child who was wearing only a t-shirt. The child’s body was covered with bumps and her bottom was covered in dried feces

After hours passed, police were eventually approached by the child's mother who arrived at the hotel.

Cheyenne Johnson, 28, of Lafayette told police that she left the 4-year-old girl with a friend, but the friend "had to leave for an appointment." According to KLFY, Johnson could not identify the friend.

Green said the mother could not name the friend, give a description of the friend or give police an address for the friend.

DCFS did respond to the incident and the child was released to a relative's care while Johnson was taken into custody and charged with one count of child desertion.
