ORIGINAL STORY:

If you see a Bell 206L helicopter flying over Lafayette over the next few days, here's why:

Lafayette Utilities System (LUS), along with The Energy Authority and GeoDigital International, will be conducting an aerial survey of 40 miles of high-voltage transmission lines through the city of Lafayette.

In a press release, LUS spokesperson Alex Antonowitsch says the helicopter will slowly fly approximately 500 feet above the high-voltage lines to capture images that will allow LUS to inspect the system, as part of routine transmission maintenance.

This aerial survey - which local authorities have been made aware of - is expected to start Wednesday, July 22, and last for a week.
