Usher Covers Foster the People’s ‘Pumped Up Kicks’
Usher showed the rock side of his personality with a new cover of Foster the People‘s ‘Pumped Up Kicks’ on which he played bass guitar.
The R&B star recorded the song for the Radio 1 Live Lounge Series, which regularly encourages cover performances. Looking like a rock star with sunglasses and a sleeveless jean jacket, Usher introduced the track by saying, “This is one of my favorites.”
Usher didn’t bother singing the hook, leaving that to his band and to the fans in attendance, but his silky smooth voice sounded great over the roaring guitars that kicked off the track. Perhaps he should consider recording a full-on rock song on his next album. This style could really work for him.
Usher’s ‘Looking 4 Myself‘ album hit stores yesterday and is on track to be the week’s top-selling new release. The album doesn’t feature anything as left-field as a Foster the People cover, but it does include a variety of styles, from dance-pop to slow jams.
