The Lafayette Police Department has identified the victim of a tragic hit-and-run accident that occurred on Thursday night (10/5). Joan Brown Aragon, 59, of Abbeville, La., was the unfortunate pedestrian who lost her life in the 1300 block of West Willow Street.

At approximately 8:31 p.m., Lafayette police officers rushed to the scene following reports of a severe hit-and-run accident involving substantial injuries. Preliminary investigations revealed a distressing scene where a female pedestrian, now identified as Joan Brown Aragon, was struck while walking westbound by an unidentified white truck also traveling in the same direction. According to Lafayette police, the driver did not stop to provide aid or report the incident. Instead, the suspect continued driving on West Willow Street, heading towards the Ambassador Caffery Parkway.

As of the latest update, travel lanes on the 1300 block of West Willow Street, which were previously closed off for investigation, have been reopened. Traffic is now resuming its normal flow in the area.

The Lafayette Police Department Traffic Unit is diligently pursuing the investigation. The department urges any witnesses or individuals with information related to this crime to come forward.
