According to Daily Mail the "face with tears of joy" is the world's most popular emoji.

I'm not gonna lie, I'm a little surprised. I don't think I've ever used that emoji or if I have it's not a lot, because it's not even in my "frequently used" part of the emoji keyboard. But, I'm not really a pro emoji user so I'm not sure if my opinion counts. I  mean, my most used emoji is the "expressionless face", you know, the one with lines for it's mouth and eyes.

So, how do we know the "face with tears of joy" emoji is the world's most popular emoji? Well, it is all thanks to a study done by researchers from the University of Michigan. They "used the app Kika Emoji Keyboard to gather data from 427 million messages from nearly 4 million smartphone users in 212 countries and regions across the world to see if emoji use was universal or varied depending on location and culture."

That is a lot of messages, a lot of emoji's, and probably a lot of time. But, in the end  they found that the goofy smiley face with tears accounts for 15.4 percent of the total emoji usage.
