He announced Flappy Bird would be back at some point, but now Dong Nguyen has set an official timeframe for his addictive surprise hit to return.

According to TechCrunch, Nguyen appeared on CNBC's 'Closing Bell' with Kelly Evans to announce Flappy Bird's comeback. However, as promised, the iOS game will supposedly be less addictive (somehow), and it will feature multiplayer of some sort, too, when it arrives on app stores in August.

If you recall, Nguyen pulled the incredibly popular and challenging game from the app store when the pressure of being a top app proved to be too much for the amateur creator. “My life has not been as comfortable as I was before. I couldn’t sleep,” Nguyen told Forbes in an interview earlier this year.

At one point, Flappy Bird was pulling in $50K a day in ad revenue, though there was heavily speculation that Nguyen had artificially inflated Flappy Bird's downloads to get the game ranked higher on downloadable charts. Nothing was ever proven of course, and the game was pulled earlier this year. However, now that Flappy Bird is on the return, one can only wonder what changes lie in wait for new and returning players.

Perhaps the glut of clones will take note, and make some improvements as well. Otherwise we may be in for another wave of crappy rip-offs. There's no word on the exact return date, but we'll be sure to keep you posted when we learn more.
