A Houma woman is lucky to be alive after she was struck by lighting while shopping at Rouses Supermarket, in Houma, Monday afternoon.

The woman was checking out when the bolt of lighting hit the store, and according to fire officials she seemed to be "OK" after the incident. Meteorologist Gavin Phillips told the Houma Today newspaper that he has never seen anything like this before and he suspects that the bolt of electricity traveled through the store's electric lines prior to reaching the victim.

The odds of being struck by lightning in an average lifetime are about 1 in 6,250, according to the National Weather Service. Don't tell that woman that, but we are glad that she seems to be "OK" and that she was not severely injured by this freak accident.
