The St. Louis Rams have released defensive end Michael Sam.

Sam, who openly came out to announce that he was gay prior to the NFL draft, hit waivers at 3pm today. From here, all other NFL teams have 24 hours to claim Sam.

All NFL teams must cut their roster down to 53 players today. According to ESPN, the Rams have expressed interest in bringing Sam back to the team as a member of the practice squad.

Sam hopes to be the first openly gay NFL player to take the field. If that is to happen, it will likely NOT be in a Rams uniform.

We will continue to monitor this developing story.
