The following message is from the St. Landry Parish Sheriff's Office and provides details on all road closures, evacuation notices and sandbag locations in your area. Please take the time to read if you live in the area.

EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY by orders of the St. Landry Parish Sheriff, Bobby Guidroz, ALL traffic is to remain off of the Atchafalaya River Levee from the North Ring Levee at Krotz Springs to the South Parish Line just below the Indian Bayou Game Management Area.

All recreational activities on the river, to include fishing and boating, are prohibited until further notice by orders of the St. Landry Parish EOC and Sheriff’s Office.

Weekend Sandbagging: (Friday – Sunday) 25 bags will be distributed at a time

Port Barre: Self-fill Sandbagging will be held behind the old Fruit of the Loom plant in Port Barre. Bring pictured ID and shovel. Time: 8am – 8pm

Krotz Springs: Self-fill Sandbagging will be held under Hwy 190 in Krotz Springs. Time: 9am – 10pm Bring pictured ID and Shovel.

Melville: Self-fill Sandbagging. Bags may be picked up at the Melville Police Dept and filled at the intersection of Gum & Church Streets. Time: 8am – 4pm

Evacuation:

Mandatory Evacuation of all Livestock on the levee and surrounding areas, beginning May 9th. Livestock remaining will be removed by the Parish and the owners will be billed for transportation and a daily maintenance fee. Voluntary Evacuation of residents in the Melville, Krotz Springs and Three Mile Lake areas. Residents are strongly encouraged to make arrangement with family members. Items of Importance: Drivers Licenses, birth certificates, social security cards, medical information, insurance information, medicine and family emergency contact information Shut Off the main power breaker in your home prior to evacuation.
