With the rain passing through, but a large amount of water still unable to drain, many roads are still impassable. As a result, it was announced that the following parishes' public schools will be closed:
January 10, 2013 When we look back on the year 2013, we will all be talking about the day of January 10th, 2013. Much of Acadiana is under water today after several inches of rain was dumped over it in the last 24-hours.
We just played this interview on the radio---a man trapped in his attic in Plaquemines Parish called a New Orleans television station, WWL-TV, and described what brought he and his family into their attic. As we reported, water appears to have breached the levees in Plaquemines Parish due to the rising tide and storm surge.
So many of you have been asking, "when will the water reach me?" Well, if your area is in the shaded areas, this is a time frame for when potential flood waters could reach your area from the time the Morganza Spill Way was open (3pm Saturday Afternoon).
The following message is from the St. Landry Parish Sheriff's Office and provides details on all road closures, evacuation notices and sandbag locations in your area. Please take the time to read if you live in the area.
May 12, 2011 Officials in St. Martin Parish are saying that a mandatory evacuations are highly likely, anticipating that they may be issued as early as next week. Officials are already exploring clean up efforts for their area as they prepare for record flooding levels.

With the potential opening of the spillway, areas south are facing evacuation measures. From the Morganza Spillway south to the Gulf of Mexico, thousands of Louisiana citizens will be affected.
