McDonald's has been giving out toys to kids for decades, but when they introduced the Happy Meal in 1979, the game was changed forever. In addition to your burger, (or nuggets) small fry and drink, McDonald's also offered whatever amazing new toy happened to be in rotation. I'm posting this message as an American and a parent. In this day and age of instant gratification and the ME generation, I find it interesting that people will defer parenting to others. The Center for Science in the Public Interest thinks it's unfair that McDonald's puts toys in their Happy Meals because it forces parents to be, well, parents.
