UPDATE 10:10 a.m. Louisiana State Police will hold a press conference in Abbeville at 1 p.m. to discuss the shooting and the events surrounding it.

UPDATE 6:25 a.m. KLFY is reporting family members have identified the Vermilion Parish Sheriff's Deputy shot and killed in Abbeville Monday as Allen Bares Jr. of Erath. Two men are in custody for the Monday shooting death of an off-duty Vermilion Parish sheriff's deputy. 20-year-old Quintylan Richard, the alleged shooter, was reportedly arrested in Kaplan late Monday night. Baylan Taylor is accused of being on the scene when the shooting took place and was arrested in Abbeville

UPDATE 1:23 a.m. Officials in Vermilion Parish say that two suspects wanted in connection with the fatal shooting of an off duty Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Deputy are now in custody. KATC TV 3 is reporting that the alleged shooter was taken into custody late Monday night. He was captured at an apartment complex in Kaplan.

The other suspect was arrested earlier in the evening in Abbeville. He is accused of being at the scene when the shooting took place. Newstalk 96.5 KPEL along with our news partners at KATC TV will have continuing coverage of this story as details become available.

UPDATE: Abbeville residents are under curfew from 9 p.m. Monday and through the night Tuesday morning.

ORIGINAL: Shortly after 4 p.m. today an off-duty Vermilion Parish Deputy was shot and killed on South Hospital Drive. The name of the deputy is not being released until next of kin is notified.

A search is on for two black men in a blue-grey Silverado truck pulling a trailer with a lawnmower on the trailer. The Silverado belonged to the deputy.

The two men are considered to be armed and dangerous. If you see the vehicle in question you should call 9-1-1, State Police or the Vermilion Parish Sheriff's Office.
