New Orleans Saints linebacker Jonathan Vilma has undergone arthroscopic knee surgery and will miss the rest of the preseason, according to reports.

Vilma will try to make it back for the September 8th season opener against the Atlanta Falcons.

Vilma did not play in the Saints' preseason opener and has only practiced sporadically over the last ten days.  Vilma flew to Philadelphia Wednesday and it was decided the scope was necessary to alleviate swelling in the knee.

Vilma missed six games last season because of a knee injury.
