Family Loses Home In Devastating Bourque Road Fire
A large structure fire in Lafayette Parish has left two families displaced after flames engulfed a home on Bourque Road near Fieldspan Road on Wednesday afternoon.
The fire was reported around 3:30 p.m., and by the time crews arrived, heavy flames had consumed the residence. Multiple fire departments across the parish responded, bringing in tankers and additional manpower to help contain the blaze.
Despite the intensity of the fire, officials confirmed that no injuries were reported.
Multiple Fire Departments Respond
Due to the scale of the fire, crews from several departments assisted the Judice Volunteer Fire Department, including units from Duson, Scott, Lafayette, Milton, Broussard, Youngsville, Carencro, and Maurice.
Firefighters worked together to control the flames and support the water supply, with tanker trucks playing a critical role in the effort.
Additional assistance came from a local excavation company, which provided heavy equipment to help extinguish lingering hot spots and prevent further spread.
Home Held Deep Family History
The home carried significant sentimental value for the family who built it themselves over the course of several years.
According to relatives, construction began in 2003, with the family moving in around 2005. The house became the center of their childhood, filled with memories that are now gone.
“This was the home my parents built themselves,” a family member shared. “There are so many memories tied to that house.”
The fire destroyed not only the structure but also irreplaceable heirlooms and personal belongings.
Two Families Displaced
In addition to the homeowners, a second family living in an attached apartment was also displaced.
Both families were able to escape safely and have since secured temporary housing. Immediate needs such as clothing and toiletries have largely been met, but the long-term recovery process is just beginning.
Community Steps Up To Help
In the aftermath of the fire, the community has rallied in support. Fundraisers have been launched to assist both families with rebuilding and recovery efforts.
As of Thursday morning, one fundraiser had already raised a significant portion of its goal.
Fire officials say the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
