Cyclist Left for Dead Overnight in Ditch After Hit-and-Run in Carencro, LA
Concerns arose on Facebook early Saturday morning when local residents noticed an unusual police presence on the I-49 Frontage Road near Gloria Switch in Carencro. As eyewitnesses took to the Life in Carencro page on Facebook, speculations began to circulate about the presence of a mangled bicycle found in a nearby ditch.
Later that weekend, KLFY News 10 shed light on the situation, revealing a harrowing incident that had occurred the previous night. According to the report, a cyclist was struck in a hit-and-run incident around 9:30 p.m. on Friday and was left severely injured in the ditch. The individual, whose identity remains undisclosed, was not discovered until the following morning by a passing motorist.
Carencro Police Chief David Anderson confirmed the details of the incident, stating that the cyclist is currently hospitalized and in critical condition. Authorities have successfully located the driver involved in the hit-and-run. However, as the investigation is ongoing, the identity of the driver has yet to be released to the public.
The local cycling community expressed their concerns and support for the victim. A post from Bike Lafayette highlighted the gravity of the situation, stating, "Cyclist hit and left for dead... luckily she survived and is in the hospital. This could have been worse, but there is still room for improvement here!"
The Carencro Police Department urges anyone with additional information about the incident to come forward.
