Local Police Chief Issues Warning To Homecoming Pranksters
A local chief of police has issued a stern warning to homecoming pranksters: no eggs or paintball guns; no damaging property.
The tradition of "rolling" (toilet-papering) houses, though, will be allowed to continue.
Responses to the Chief's post were mixed, but most were supportive.
I think that it is refreshing that a police chief recognizes the "innocent" fun of the homecoming pranks, yet realizes how easily they could turn criminal (strong word, I know, but it's true). It's even more refreshing that he's willing to turn a blind eye to the TPers to allow them to continue the tradition.
One Facebook user had a great suggestion: while the kids are out and about throwing toilet paper on houses, notice any homes that need yard work and return later to cut their grass. I LOVE this idea!
Most of these comments are great: people stood in their driveways, watching the neighbor's house get "rolled", keeping an eye for anything other than toilet paper.
I have mixed feelings about the "rolling" tradition: since I didn't do it in high school, I don't have a personal attachment to the tradition. I do have a problem with littering, though. Yes, I am aware that the toilet paper (what's not picked up by the homeowner) will deteriorate after just a few days, but I just think it's an eyesore.
