There are reports out today that the New Orleans Saints have FINALLY offered Quarterback Drew Brees the richest contract in NFL history!!! According to Mike Tripplet, of The Times-Picayune, the Saints franchise and the star quarterback are on the verge of agreeing to a five-year deal worth somewhere between $19.2 and $20 million per season!!!

According to The Times-Picayune, "The two parties have until July 16 to hammer out the exact parameters of this deal. Otherwise, Brees would have to play out the year on the franchise tag amount of $16.4 million and could not negotiate a new contract until after the season."

There is speculation now that Brees and his camp could either take the contract as is, or they may try and workout a deal to get more guaranteed money from the Saints organization. Brees, who is now 33-years-old, could be set to rake in as much as $100 Million from the Saints organization as he approaches the end of his football career.

Currently, Denver Broncos Quarterback Payton Manning is the highest paid NFL player of all-time with a five-year contract worth $96 million.

The only problem New Orleans Saints fans should have with such a HUGE contract offer to Bress can be summed up in two words: SALARY CAP!!! Not only are the Saints putting themselves in a financial squeeze this year, but they are also setting themselves up for future problems in the free agency world of the NFL. The New Orleans Saints have several other key players on their team that are up for free agency, and if they don't have the "cap" room now or tomorrow, it could be detrimental to keeping this winning team together. In any case, preseason football is just weeks away and the Saints and Brees should have all contract negotiations ironed out by then.
